DNC Operation Food Rescue

The Democratic National Convention (DNC) took place at various venues in Philadelphia between Thursday, July 21st, and Thursday, July 28th, 2016. An estimated 50,000 visitors came to the City of Brotherly Love and we anticipated that there would be leftover prepared and packaged food at the end of each day of the event. Operation Food Rescue was a collaborative effort of the city’s leading anti-hunger organizations that connected excess food from large events in Philadelphia to area food banks, pantries, and emergency meal providers. Operation Food Rescue helped divert food waste while simultaneously providing safe and dignified meals to food-insecure people experiencing hunger. Restaurants, catering companies, and vendors had a safe and easy option for diverting waste to support the local community.

Food Connect is proud to share that during the eight days leading up to and including the DNC, the app collected 11,239 pounds of food.
